Boones Ferry Primary School West Linn-Wilsonville School District | Wilsonville, OR

Arcadis was retained by the district in 2000 to develop a master plan for a 20-acre campus. We led a community visioning workshop that resulted in some unexpected conclusions.  It became clear that there was a strong motivation to integrate the entire campus into a “Learning Village” where resources could be shared in terms of physical amenities, student and parent involvement, and district staff.  During the course of nearly a year, the team worked together in a process of site planning, followed by preliminary schematic design for the new elementary school.

Further planning work with the design committee resulted in a final master plan that envisioned the renovation of a recently purchased private residence bordering the site to become an environmental learning center, now known as “CREST.”  This facility is now staffed full-time and is available for student and community educational purposes.  The neighboring wetland became a central theme of the architectural design and landscape scheme for Boones Ferry Primary School, which was sited and physically designed to address goals reinforcing the “Learning Village” concept.

We were recently engaged by the district to upgrade the entrance of the school to provide a safe, secure, and welcoming vestibule for before, during, and after-hours access.

Boones Ferry Primary School has received several prestigious awards for school planning and design, including:

ASBJ (American School Board Journal) | Learning by Design | Design Excellence 2003
